In ancient Egypt, purification and fasting were an essential part of spiritual life. In the mystery schools, such as that of the House of Life associated with the Sety I temple in Abydos, it was considered a sacred preparation for initiations and for undergoing rituals—a way to refine consciousness and connect with the higher energies of the Neters, the divine forces behind the visible world.
By purifying the body, the Khat, the Ka—described as "The Shadow," which, together with the Ba, are the rulers of the body and reside in the Heart—was seen by the ancient Egyptians as the sum total of the lower desires, impulses, lower feelings, and lower thoughts. The ultimate goal of fasting was to free the Ka from those lower impulses that serve as a breeding ground for the Ka as Shadow. By doing so, the Ba was given the opportunity to greatly increase in Light, allowing one to connect with the subtle vibrations of a higher consciousness with greater clarity, refinement, and wisdom.
The Ba spirit, clear and full of wisdom, thus achieved a free flow and contact with the higher realms—for fasting raises the vibration, allowing the Ba, the Light, to effortlessly find its resonance with the higher levels of reality—a form of inner regeneration with the All. You restore the inner balance between Khat (Foundation), Ka (Shadow), and Ba (Light), allowing Ma’at (Balance)—the cosmic order and harmony—to return within yourself.

Besides this deep spiritual significance, fasting also had a practical, medicinal side. Light abstinence was used as a healing method: to cleanse the body, purify the channels, and allow the natural life force to flow again.
Mild fasting was also practiced during times of mourning. By temporarily consuming frugal meals, people expressed reverence and connection with the deceased. In this way, they attuned themselves to their Ba and honored their transition to the Realm of Osiris.

Whatever your reasons for participating, during this ten-day program, you will undergo a personalized cleansing program, just like the ancient Egyptians did. You will follow part of the program with others; another part is specifically tailored to your body, your Ka and Ba, with herbs, food, and exercises to support your cleansing.

The great healing temple of Sety I in Abydos also plays a role in the program. By wandering among the ancient stones, experiencing your gravitational pull, meditating there, and listening to the voice of your soul, you will undergo an intense form of purification for your entire being.

The program includes several elements, in addition to personalized exercises and dietary guidelines: foot baths, sound healing, ankh breathing, breath work, voice work, massage, oil and herbal rituals, personal conversations, and lectures on the wisdom of the ancient Egyptians and their perspective on health and the human psyche.

The fee includes full board at the House of Life, transportation from Luxor to Abydos and back to Luxor, all program components at the House of Life, and support before and after the retreat.
The cost does not include return airfare to Egypt, visa, travel insurance, or temple tickets.
