The Sacred Kundalini of the Ancient Egyptians

The Sacred Kundalini of the Ancient Egyptians

When we speak of kundalini as practiced by the ancient Egyptians, we are talking about a profound understanding of creative forces and how these creative forces shaped humanity. How everything that manifested in nature around us was imbued with these creative forces.

Working with the kundalini forces in ancient Egypt was predestined for the priests and priestesses belonging to Hathor, Isis, Horus, Thoth, Amun Ra, and Min, who had years of study and training behind them. This study was aimed at studying and understanding from within how the universal laws of creative forces manifested. The law of inner will and divine timing, of knowledge and consciousness, of cause and effect, and of action and manifestation. Only when these laws were deeply understood and could be applied by the priest and priestess with the consciousness of the Goddess Ma’at, the next step could be taken: activating the kundalini forces within the body itself.

This process of inner ascension was activated by training focused on the knowledge and balancing of the Ka and Ba through breathing, chakra activation, yoga, energetic movements, temple dances, meditation, and fasting. All of this was practiced, usually in solitary confinement.

The sole purpose of kundalini activation was to contribute to increasing the creative energy in the temples so that they could function as the true homes of the Gods, building and protecting the pharaoh and the land in good times and bad.

The practice of kundalini as taught today in the Western world is far removed from the kundalini as practiced in ancient Egypt. Various Neturs (gods and goddesses) in ancient Egypt were associated with kundalini. We have already mentioned some of these: Hathor, Isis, Horus, Thoth, Amun Ra, and Min. In addition, the Neters Khnum, Bes, Nut, Mut, and Seghmet were involved in the practice of kundalini. Each Neter had their own specific quality in the practice of kundalini.

The primary purpose of practicing kundalini was not to serve the physical body (the Ka), but was primarily intended to serve the higher Soul, the Ach and the Ba, in order to develop the High Love of the Soul and thus strengthen the Light of the Soul. This state of Being created a Unity Consciousness with the All-One Being and the creative power of the Universe.

This higher Consciousness could be perceived as energy through the physical body's emanations. As such, it nourished the physical body with life-giving energy.

However, it was not generated to satisfy the Ka, the body. On the contrary, this form of kundalini observed in the contemporary Western world was seen as a perishable food and was thus believed to have a corrupting and negative influence on the physical body and therefore also on the spiritual body. After all, it was believed to nourish the lower chakras and the Ka instead of the Ba and Ach which belong the higher chakra’s.

Kundalini was awakened through chakra activation with the aim of strengthening and expanding the Ba and Ach in order to activate the Higher Love that resides within the Soul, Ba, and Ach.

It was not activated to open and activate the love, longing, and desire inherent in the physical body. Unfortunately, in Western kundalini practice, we see precisely this activation occurring. This can lead to significant misunderstandings about what kundalini is and can even lead to inner confusion and the feeling of being lost and disconnected from reality. This can manifest in all sorts of physical, emotional, and spiritual complaints, such as feeling ungrounded, unable to eat, unable to sleep, a nervous system that has gone haywire, and the feeling of having lost oneself.

Next year in 2026, we hope to offer the retreat "The Sacred Kundalini of the Ancient Egyptians" at the House of Life, where participants will have the opportunity to study the kundalini from the perspective and knowledge of the ancient Egyptians.
